Find visually enhanced reading passages for struggling readers and early readers. These stories will also work great for students with special needs, and ELL students too.
Visually enhanced stories help students stay engaged when they are reading which will improve comprehension. Plus, it’s fun!
All you need is Internet access to follow the links provided in the story and see the pictures either before or after reading the story. The pictures also help spark discussions.
About the Story:
Follow the main character, Julian, and his grandma on their road trip through different parts of the United States. Julian is a high school teenager who thinks school is boring and that there is nothing else to learn in life. That’s where his grandma steps in and tries to open his eyes to the fact that there is a great big world out there with lots to see.
Chapters 1 and 2 follow Julian and his grandma as they leave their home state of Florida and travel to Alaska in an RV.
The story includes:
reading comprehension questions
recalling information section
visualizing by drawing a picture
making an inferences or questions about connecting with the story.
Upcoming:
Julian and his grandma head to California and visit San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. All the passages try to use pictures to help students “experience” what the main character, Julian, experiences.
